Mr. Hashim Garret

On May 7 1990, in Brooklyn N.Y. at the age of 15 Hashim Garrett was shot six times with a sub-machine gun (tec-9). As a result, he was partially paralyzed from the waist down. After years of extensive rehabilitation and prayers, he regained movement in one of his legs.

In 1993 Hashim was accepted into Rutgers University where he majored in Investment Banking. From 1995 through 2001, Mr. Garrett became the Violence Prevention Coordinator at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation.

From 1995 through 2001, he taught the Harvard Violence Prevention Curriculum developed by Dr. Deborah Prothrow-Stith, M.D. Professor of Public Health Practice; also author of "Deadly Consequences" to over 30,000 students throughout the United States.

In 2001 Mr. Garrett created Wisdom and Understanding, LLC Consultation and Life Coach Services. The mission of W&U, LLC is to educate adolescents about the causes of violence, character education, and goal setting; stressing the importance of education.

Mr. Garrett has become an activist, championing the efforts of young leaders. With a combination of spiritual values bestowed by his parents, and the overall mission of Wisdom and Understanding, LLC is to educate individuals about the risk factors that contribute to homicides, reinforce proactive-not reactive decision making alternatives, and the importance of goal setting to enlighten people about the consequences of their actions.
